Making Sense of Green Resources

We all want as much information about helping the environment as possible, but often it is difficult to locate the materials we need. A search of the Internet might yield dozens of sites that provide all kinds of products or solutions, but when looking for some reliable green resources it can become a bit of a challenge.

What are the best sources of environmental information? That all depends on what you are looking for, for example if you want to know about legal battles currently working to combat poor environmental policies or practices you would want to head straight to a website such as the National Resource Defense Council. If, however, you were looking strictly for the most promising resources for finding environmentally friendly household supplies you would want to perform a search for specific brands or intentions (i.e. earth-friendly floor cleaners, etc.)

There are many publications, blogs, websites and even printed journals or magazines that provide all kinds of environmental information or resources, but you must know what you are looking for before beginning.

For example, in the United States alone there are governmental resources about everything from the atmosphere and health to research, sustainability and technology. Of course there are also non-governmental agencies also working in all of the same areas, and this is the reason for only a targeted search.

While government publications about some topics will be valid, it doesn’t hurt to “level the field” and look for university, scholarly or independent reports on many of the same issues. Consider the controversy around the Massachusetts offshore wind farms and all of the public forums and discussions about the “good” and “bad” of installing such a structure in that location. This is a good illustration for how much material is going to be available about any given environmental subject.

For a truly collective and unbiased approach it might be best to look into one of the .org groups that work as a collective resource. The EnviroLink website is currently one of the most popular entities for gaining a complete understanding and clear picture of nearly every possible environmental subject imaginable.

When looking into any online community or environmental resource it is important that they offer suggestions or links to “action” or ways of putting your concerns or desires into practice. While a list of links to the major organizations will be helpful, also be sure to find a site that tells you “how you can help” or offers good solutions to the problems plaguing the planet.
